Out of the Ordinary — Tania Rhodes-Taylor

Tania Rhodes-Taylor is a painter working in oils and oil pastels, exploring the quiet presence of everyday subjects—interiors, landscapes and still life. Based on the Dengie, her work begins with what is close at hand: a familiar view, objects on a table, light moving across a surface.

Her way of seeing has been shaped by time spent learning to paint in London and Sydney, and by continued travel. These experiences sit alongside a close attention to her immediate surroundings, where small shifts in light, weather and season offer a constant source of material.

Her approach is deliberately traditional. She works slowly and by eye, building each piece through careful observation of light, colour and form. Alongside this, time spent in galleries and museums continues to inform her practice, grounding it in a long tradition of looking and making.

Out of the Ordinary reflects this way of working. These paintings begin with ordinary places and objects, and give them the time and attention needed to show what might otherwise be missed.
