An exhibition featuring Nicola Hughes 02/04/2026 – 21/04/2026
Nicola Hughes is a textile artist, whose love of making textiles began whilst experiencing life in many foreign countries and in different places in the UK… Currently living in Maldon, on the east coast, which maintains a fleet of old but seaworthy traditional craft, her life seems to follow a pattern of always living near a loch, lake or a sea…Self-taught, around an career in the City, teaching and family life, including the Creative Textiles City and Guilds, which led to teaching textile art in colleges and privately, and undertaking large felting projects involving whole primary schools.
This coastal series is a representation of the years living in various coastal towns, from Morecambe Bay to Scotland to East Africa, but will not be continued. Sometimes, in the old coastal series, an element of humour and simplicity creeps in, such as the Mersey oysters’ secret life, the escaping crabs from a little girl’s crabbing bucket, or even the giant avocet, apparently invisible to the Bryhtnoth fans!
Since lockdown, she has been concentrating on building a solo career, doing farm, country and conservation art.
