A Quiet Riot
An exhibition to celebrate moments of quiet beauty with a riot of colour. This is an invitation for you to pause, look closely and rediscover the joy in the little things.

I make acrylic paintings of everyday objects, subjects or places by elevating colour. I am focussed on creating detailed imagery with strong contrasts and always look for an opportunity to be playful with the content (look for the quirks or misfits). I seek inspiration in daily life – mostly shiny objects (I am possibly part magpie) and then work intuitively to combine my observations. I look for the joy and whimsy in the world and communicate that through painting.
Collaborating with my mum for this exhibition has strengthened an already incredibly strong relationship and connection, in ways that words cannot define. She nurtured my creativity, skill and dedication to my art from a very young age and is my role model.

Artist statement
In these most recent works there is no distinctions between art, craft and design. I flit between them all enjoying the slow and mindful processes of creating.
The clean lines, bold flat colours, striking contrasts and simplified shapes and patterns used here are directly influenced by mid-century culture, style and fashion, from illustrations in 1950s children’s books and comics, the Pop Art movement and the psychedelic images of the 1960s. These were all part of the landscape of my childhood. Much of my art features bright colour, strong contrasts, repeat motifs and pattern. l like to bring in elements of the surreal or quirky.
My ‘Riot’ is delivered through bright hues and intense colour combinations but also the building up of layers and detail. My ‘Quiet’ combines the soft, sound insulating properties of fibre, fabric and wool, and the time embedded in making.
Collaborating with my daughter has been both enriching and fun and I hope you find things here to make you smile.
