Chris Bourne – My Journey Through Photography
My passion for photography began at the age of eight — a passion that has continued to grow and evolve throughout my life.
In those early days, photography was very different from what we know today. There was no digital photography, no instant preview and certainly no opportunity to take hundreds of photographs and simply choose the best one. Photography was largely captured on film, in both black and white and, a few years later, in colour.
Film came in cartridges and rolls, and every photograph mattered. You had just one opportunity to capture the moment. Once the roll was finished, it would be sent away to be developed, and only then would you discover whether you had truly captured the image you had imagined.
The arrival of digital photography transformed the art completely. We gained the freedom to experiment, to take multiple images, and to refine our work using the many editing and creative tools now available. Yet, despite all these advances, I believe the heart of photography remains the same — seeing something special, recognising the moment, and capturing it in a way that tells a story.
I am a completely self-taught photographer, and that is something I am particularly proud of. Every photograph I take is another opportunity to learn, experiment and improve. Even after all these years, I still believe there is always something new to discover behind the lens.
For the past six years, I have been fortunate enough to work professionally as a photographer. During that time, my images have received tremendous support and appreciation across social media, with many photographs attracting thousands of likes and reaching audiences around the world.
I have also had the privilege of selling my photography internationally. My annual calendar has been especially rewarding, with copies finding their way to Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the United States and many other places. Knowing that people around the world have chosen to bring my photographs into their homes is something I never take for granted.
The Story Behind KEBS
I am often asked what KEBS means.
The answer is a very personal one. KEBS comes from my daughter’s initials and, as a result, the name has a special meaning to me.
For me, photography is not simply about taking a picture. It is about creating something that can evoke a memory, capture a feeling or make someone stop for a moment and appreciate what is in front of them.
This is my third exhibition, and I am incredibly proud to be able to share my work with you once again.
Every photograph on display represents a moment, an idea, a lesson or simply something that caught my eye and made me reach for the camera. I hope that as you walk through the exhibition, some of these images will speak to you in their own way and perhaps create a connection or memory of your own.
